Leh, Uleytopko, Tsomoriri, Nubra


Tour Detail:

Day 01 :           Delhi / Leh (Flight)

Early morning transfer to airport for flight to Leh.  On arrival transfer to hotel.  Rest of the day free for acclimatization of high altitude (3500 M) and low oxygen levels in Leh.  Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

Day 02:            Leh

Morning sightseeing of Spituk and Phyang monasteries.  After lunch visit Leh Monastery, Leh Palace, and Leh Bazaar.  Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

Day 03:            Leh

Morning proceeds for sightseeing of Shey, old summer palace with 12 feet statue of Buddha: Thikse, the superbly situated Monastery on a hilltop overlooking the village and the Indus river and Hemis Monastery the richest and the largest Monastery of the area.  Afternoon return to Leh.  Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

Day 04 :           Leh – Uleytokpo (66 kms / 1.5 hrsapprox)

After breakfast leave for Uleytokpo, en route visit Likirgompa.  Lunch at camp.  Pm: Visit Alchigompa and village.  Dinner and overnight at camp.

Day 05 :           Uleytokpo – Lamayuru – Leh

After early breakfast leave for Lamayuru (62 km / 2 hrs approx) with box lunch. Visit Lamayuru gompa and retrace the route back to Leh (128 km / 4 hrs approx). Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 06 :           Leh – Chumathang – Tsomoriri

The morning after breakfast drive to the hot water spring at Chumathang (3965 M) by covering 140 km in 4 hrs, and then drive up to Tsomoriri (4555 M) through Puga Valley by covering 80 km in 3 hrs.  This Valley, approx. 25 km from Tsomoriri is known for its sulfur and borax deposits.  Arrive and overnight stay in tents. 

Day 07 :           Tsomoriri

full-day excursion around the lake and Karzok Monastery which belongs to the yellow sect.  Tsomoriri or “Mountain Lake” is situated in the middle of the elevated valley of Rupshu surrounded by 6000 M peaks which completely shut the lake in.  This Valley is inhabited by a small scattered population of “Changepas” nomadic shepherds who also engage in trade and work the Caravans in Ladakh, Lahaul, and Spiti the area is rich in wildlife including the “Kyang” (Wild Ass) red fox and the rare highly endangered snow Leopard.  Black-Necked Cranes and Geese flock to the lakeside for breeding during the summer months.  Also, visit the 350 years old Karzok monastery which has about 33 resident monks.  Overnight stay in tents.

Day 08   :           Tsomoriri – Tsokar – Leh

Morning drive to Leh via Tsokar by covering 165 km in 7  hrs. approxTsokar lake approx. 45 km northwest of the Tsomoriri Lake is situated at the height of 4485 M.  It is also called “White Lake” because of salt deposit around it.  Since these are all drainage basins with no outlet their water is blackish.  That of the Tsokar is so salty that salt is procured from its margins and was sold all over Ladakh and Kashmir Until a few years ago by the Rupshu Chang.  Tsokar is partly fed by a channel from a smaller freshwater lake.  All the lakes are breeding grounds for a variety of birds among them the bar-headed goose, the great crested Grebe, the Brahmin Duck and the Brown Headed Gull.  Drive to Leh via Tanglang La (5224 M – the second highest motorable road in the world), about 75 kms from Tsokar. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 09 :           Leh

After breakfast visit Stok Palace and museum. Return to Leh en-route visiting SOS Tibetan Refugee camp at Choglamsar. Lunch at the hotel. Rest of the day free at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 10 :           Leh – Nubra  (124 / 6 hrs approx)

Early morning drive from Leh to Nubra (124 km / 5 – 6 hrs Drive approx). The Nubra valley lies in the north of Leh and is accessible over the Khardungla (5570 M) which is 42 km from Leh. Khardungla is the highest motorable road in the world. The valley is on the trade route from Leh to Kyagar via Saser and Karakoram passes. Apart from unparalleled trekking opportunities the valley houses several Monasteries such as sumur (khagar) and 350 years old Dikshit Gompa, famous for its Murals.FromKhardungla Drive to the village of Khardung and through the starkly beautiful countryside to the TCP at khalsar where permits have to be registered/checked.  Arrive at Hundar. Later visit  Samasthanling monastery and Panamik hot water spring. Return to guesthouse for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11 :           Nubra – Leh

After breakfast visit Diskit and Hundergompas. Later proceed back to Leh. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 12:            Leh / Delhi (Flight)

Early morning transfer to airport for flight to Delhi.
